Tuberculosis (TB) remains as a public health problem in Nepal, as it is responsible for ill health among thousands of people each year. Nepal aims to end tuberculosis epidemic by 2050 with the intermediate target of reducing TB incidence by 20% by the year 2021 compared to 2015 and increase case notifications by a cumulative total of 20,000 from July 2016 to July 2021.
Targets:
The SDG3 (Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages) related global target is:
- By 2030, end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected tropical diseases and combat hepatitis, water-borne diseases and other communicable diseases
Targets linked to the SDGs and the End TB strategy:
- Detect 100% of new sputum smear-positive TB cases and cure at least 85% of these cases.
- Eliminate TB as a public health problem (<1 case per million population) by 2050
